Agents of Transformation
In the process of education for empowerment, there are two key "agents of transformation." One is the individual "empowering learning facilitator," and another is the civil society organization.
Empowering Learning Facilitator
The empowering learning facilitator, an adult learning facilitator who is specifically focused on empowering people and building transformational communities, is a key agent of change within the educational process. The attached summary outlines some of the characteristics of the ideal "adult learning facilitator." These include factors of the heart (the attitude and passion of the facilitator), the head (knowledge of learning theory and subject-specific content), and the hands (skills in instructional design, emotional-social intelligence, and facilitative communication).
This handout summarizes the role of an adult learning facilitator.
Civil Society Organizations
Civil Society Organizations, which can include non-profit organizations, farmers associations, civic clubs, etc., can be made more effective agents of transformation through human resource development, which incorporates both training and development of individual personnel as well as broader, more systematic organizational development. Thus, Human Resource Development is an important field of study and a significant portion of this portfolio.
